NSE market holidays — FAQ
Is the Indian stock market open this Friday?
Whether the NSE and BSE are open on a given Friday depends on whether that date falls on a published exchange trading holiday, since Fridays are otherwise regular trading days. You can confirm by checking the date against the official NSE/BSE holiday calendar for the current year, which the holidays page reflects. If the Friday is not listed as a holiday, the cash and F&O segments follow normal hours.
Is NSE open on weekends?
The NSE cash and equity derivatives (F&O) segments are closed on Saturdays and Sundays as a standard rule. Trading normally runs Monday through Friday, except on declared exchange holidays. Some exchanges occasionally conduct special weekend sessions, such as scheduled disaster-recovery or mock-trading sessions, which are announced separately and are not regular trading days.
What are the Muhurat trading timings for Diwali 2026?
Muhurat trading is a short, symbolic one-hour session held on Diwali to mark the start of the Hindu Samvat new year, and the NSE and BSE announce the exact timing each year through a circular closer to the date. The window typically falls in the evening and covers segments such as equity, equity derivatives, currency, and commodities. For the confirmed Diwali 2026 session timing, refer to the official exchange circular once it is published.
When is the next NSE market holiday?
The next NSE market holiday is the nearest upcoming date on the exchange's official trading-holiday list for the current calendar year. The holidays page lists these dates in order, so the next closed day is the first one falling after today. Note that a holiday may apply to specific segments, as the cash and derivatives segments and settlement holidays can differ.
Are NSE and BSE holidays the same?
For most trading holidays, the NSE and BSE publish identical dates, since both exchanges generally align their calendars for major national and festival holidays. Differences can occasionally appear in settlement holidays or in segment-specific schedules such as currency or commodity trading. Checking each exchange's official calendar confirms whether a particular date applies to both.
Why is the stock market closed on some weekdays?
The NSE and BSE close on certain weekdays because those dates are designated as trading holidays for national holidays and major festivals, as published in the annual exchange holiday list. These are scheduled in advance, separate from weekend closures. Unscheduled closures can also occur in rare situations, which the exchanges announce through official circulars.
